Art For Kids
April 15th, 2007A is for ANT, B is for BEAR, C is for CAT…
No matter how many times you go through the alphabet, there is always a new way to help a child learn her letters.
Earlier this year we read an interesting article in the New York Times, which discussed the growing trend of parents buying art for their children. Galleries were even starting to have milk and cookies at their openings because so many parents would bring their kids along.
Thinking about it, children and art are a perfect combination. Who better to look at – anything, really – with a fresh pair of un-judging eyes than a child full of wonder? While we’re not too anxious to run out and buy a Kiki Smith for our niece, or a Lucien Freud for our nephew, we do think that the Chicago-based art collective BINTH has once again captured the essence of a moment in this beautiful ABC Poster.
We love the soft, inviting colors and the whimsical illustrations. Much like the classic “See Jane Run” illustrations, Binth’s artistry updates a classic children’s motif and launches it into another timeless visual inspiration that is sure to capture the imaginations of both girls and boys alike.
BINTH is comprised of Suzanna Bierwirth, Peter Dunham and Linnea Gits who share an interest in the dynamic relationship between art and design and the reinvention of classic genres for the modern lifestyle. Their backgrounds include fine art, illustration, photography, furniture, graphic design and marketing. In addition to creating their own products, they thrive on creative challenges of any size. As a design house they concept and create imagery and installations for the Herman Miller National Design Centers, illustrate books and design compelling corporate identities for their clients.
From their bookbinders to their printers, Binth makes it a priority to work with family-owned businesses run by traditional craftsmen that share their same attention to detail and their high quality standards. Binth also strongly believes it is essential to be environmentally conscious. That gorgeous drop-dead color you see in their prints is mixed by hand, using only water-based inks. Their paper stock, with its luxurious feel and palette of soft, contemporary hues is recycled.

- 24×40 inches; unmatted, unframed.

“My daughter loves to point at the letters. She loves the "G" giraffe and the "W" whale!”
