It was like a bright, white light...then there was a sweater organizer…
July 26th, 2007I always find there to be something very entertaining in getting organized – that’s not to say I like it because I don’t – but since it is done so infrequently at my house, I always feel a little bit like my life is flashing before my eyes. A steady stream of clothing that has in one way or another been a part of every event of my life: a slip dress that will forever be the worst date of my life, a coveted linen skirt destroyed by a scavenger hunt, a worn t-shirt that was a uniform during college…
I’m amazed (and a little bit embarrassed) how easy it would be to write my autobiography through my clothing. No item of clothing is this more true than of my sweater collection. Random, bizarrely diverse, and in most cases completely pointless; my sweaters have always been an after thought.
You see, I’m a dress girl. I obsess over ruched bodices and pencil skirts, not wool and cotton knits. Yet, somehow all these sweaters seem to trump the dresses in my memory. Maybe it is because they’ve lasted longer and been put through more – developed a bit of character along the way.
When we found this gorgeous Damask Sweater Organizer, I loved its clean, detailed pattern and its extra compartment for slippers, but once it was filled with my sweaters I couldn’t help but laugh. I think my favorite thing about it is opening my closet and seeing so many memories so neatly before me, folded, compartmentalized, but still stuck together with ten years of changing fashions and alternating adventures.
Funny how a small splurge can bring so many things together…all in the name of being organized…but really - in the name of everything you love about your clothes!

“Ok, so I have two of these - 1 1/2 I use for all my t-shirts and jeans, and then the other half I use to slide in handbags that need special storage. My closet looks so pretty!”
