Classic Pan Am Boeing 707 Recycled Cufflinks

$219.50

LIMITED EDITION Classic Pan Am Boeing 707 Cufflinks made from a recycled section of fuselage from a now-retired Pan American Boeing 707!  They've recreated the shape of the plane’s gravity-defying wing ribs into a smart, classic pair of cufflinks.  Each pair incorporates the plane’s feather-light aluminum in either the original sky-blue paint, harking back to a time when air travel was a luxury, an event for which gentlemen donned suits, ties and yes, cuff links. Comes in gift box with hand-numbered and signed Certificate of Authenticity.
These cufflinks were made in VERY limited quantities - only a few hundred were created; when they're gone, they're gone.

Catch Them If You Can: Boeing Recycled Cufflinks

May 28th, 2009

Do you remember the first time you were in an airplane?  In today’s “airbus” world, sometimes we forget what an amazing feat flying is, and we definitely have forgotten the pleasure and pomp that flying in an airplane used to entail.  Men and women put on their best clothes and hung out in sleekly designed terminals…you know, back when being Jet Set didn’t mean security lines and warm bottles of water.

In the spirit of those times and the fact that a little holiday meant to celebrate all the work Father’s do each year is coming around, we found these gorgeous cufflinks with a truly great heritage!  The sophisticated, modern cufflinks are made from pieces of the fuselage of a Pan Am plane and feature their classic sky blue hue.

Check out a little more about the significance of the Boeing 707 and Pan Am below:

There is no airline more influential, more important, or better known than Pan Am Airways. From 1927 to 1991, this aviation pioneer set the stage for commercial air travel, transporting hundreds of thousands of passengers across oceans and around the world. Its Boeing 707 service on the North Atlantic was the first pure-jet service by a U.S. airline and marked the beginning of age of jet transport. With a longer fuselage, bigger wings, higher-powered engines and increased fuel capacity, it could travel farther and more smoothly than ever before.

The inaugural took place on October 26, 1958, on Clipper America, from New York to Paris and covered 3,634 miles in 8 hours and 41 minutes. Pam Am’s staying power and the Boeing 707 went on to revolutionize intercontinental travel.

Twenty-five years later, Pan Am decided to have a celebration worthy of its historic achievement, duplicating as closely as possible the original inaugural flight. A Boeing 707 was stripped to bare metal and repainted to duplicate the color scheme used on the original 707 in 1958. To make the recreation authentic, popular magazines and newspapers from 1958 were placed in the seat pockets, 1958 movies were shown on board, and the dinner menu was adopted from the 1958 Maxim’s of Paris version used on the inaugural.

We’ve acquired a section of fuselage from this now-retired Pan American Boeing 707, N880PA, recreating the shape of the plane’s gravity-defying wing ribs as cuff links. Each pair incorporates the plane’s feather-light aluminum in either the original sky-blue paint or natural metal, harking back to a time when air travel was a luxury, an event for which gentlemen donned suits, ties and yes, cuff links.
