Beer for your ear, but we mean that in a good way...
August 22nd, 2007The search for truly timeless pieces of jewelry that can be worn everyday with anything you can find in your closet is probably the holy grail of shopping (along with the search for the perfect jeans, of course), but finding signature pieces for those times when both you and your ensemble need a kick is equally difficult these days. Whether lacking in quality and/or imagination both costume and fine jewelry don’t seem to have the opulence or sense of humor of those great pieces our grandmother’s indulged in fifty years ago.
When we heard about Kathleen Plate and her line of recycled glass jewelry we knew we loved the idea, but we weary of high concepts that don’t deliver. Alas, all our fears were unfounded – her pieces were innovative, clean, and rich in beautiful hues not normally seen in jewelry.
Although, it was difficult to choose, we featured these earrings because occasionally we have to give in to our flair for the dramatic. The oversized, mahogany glass hoops with sterling silver French ear wire remind us of Carmen Jones. We have bought many a pencil skirt, peasant top, and tube of red lipstick trying to replicate her sassy and strange brand of sexiness, but until now haven’t found the appropriate accessories.
You don’t have to sing opera or wear skin tight pencil skirts to have a little fun and spice things up!

“I love how light these are and the way they sparkle in different lights. And of course I LOVE that something so pretty could come from a beer bottle!”
