Simple Beauty
April 8th, 2007On Sale! $59.95 reg. $75 There is an art form to almost any birdhouse. The concept alone – that we would provide shelter and food for something much smaller than ourselves - is as beautiful as the shelter provided. And from there, we have infinite possibilities and interpretations. Made from beautiful white clay, these three birdhouses designed by San Francisco artist Rae Dunn struck us as unbelievably beautiful and unique. We love the idea of art in the garden, and adding functional purpose as well, Rae Dunn’s birdhouses are a treat for anyone who: a) loves the outdoors b) fancies a birdhouse c) appreciates the craftsmanship of well-made ceramics d) enjoys a great value of just $25 per house. That’s cheep real estate! Each birdhouse has it’s own story; HOME, CHIRP and NEST welcome their own wayward winged friends. They are designed to hang from branch or ledge, or sit on ground or table…whatever you prefer. You can divide the set and wrap them up as individual gifts, keep one or two inside to bring the outdoors in, or nestle them around your garden and watch them grow into the landscape. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most beautiful. About Rae Dunn: Rae Dunn grew up in California and now resides in San Francisco. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Industrial Design and worked in graphics and fashion design for many years before discovering clay, which has now been her passion for over 13 years. Her inspiration comes from the earth and she finds beauty in simple shapes, natural forms and found objects. Her utilitarian approach to designing ceramics is strongly based on the Japanese aesthetic of wabisabi: the beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. Rae Dunn’s work captures the simplicity and playfulness that are the cornerstones of her own life. Built entirely by hand, Rae’s work often elicits a physical response; it asks to be touched, and provides a sense of reassurance that we have our feet on the ground. You will find text incorporated in her work, which lends a higher level of meaning and point of view to her creations. Rae designs her collection in her San Francisco studio using white stoneware. All functional pieces are food and dishwasher safe. In addition to serving your everyday needs, Rae Dunn’s ceramics stand alone as works of art.
