The process involves having the colors applied onto raw, untanned leather hides, so the colors are part of the tanning of the leather. All of the colors, including the background color, are applied all at one time. Since the colors are part of the tanning process, they become part of the leather itself and are not just printed on the surface. This makes it impossible for the colors to scratch off or fade, and are as permanent as if they were the standard black or brown.

Since the application of the colors does not adhere to blemishes or any imperfections in the raw leather, Acme Studios usus only the best quality leather available anywhere. The results are of the best possible quality, designed by great designers, for people who know the difference and appreciate good design.

About Constantin Boym:
CONSTANTIN BOYM, was born in Moscow, Russia in 1955, where he graduated from Moscow Architectural Institute. In 1984-85, he earned a Master’s degree in design from Domus Academy in Milan. In 1986, he established Boym Design Studio in New York City. His studio’s designs include tableware for Alessi and Authentics, watches for Swatch, and exhibition installations for many American museums, including Cooper-Hewitt, and National Design Museum in New York. In 1998, Boym Design Studio started a three-year-long catalogue project “Souvenirs for the End of the Century”, to be culminated in the end of the year 2000. Boym teaches at Parsons School of Design in New York, where he is a coordinator of the Product Design department.
