So I was watching The Golden Girls the other night (it’s on at the perfect time of night where you’re desperately tired and need a snuggly distraction to get your mind off the fact that you conveniently didn’t pay your bills for yet another day) and I was struck by the fabulous Floridian color assault which ensues in each and every episode.  If it’s not Blanche in fuchsia, its Bea Arthur drenched in chartreuse head to toe.  That house, their jewelry. Estelle Getty’s handbags.  It’s a rainbow of fruit flavor.

There are certain elements of Florida in general that just speak to me…pink houses…of course plastic flamingos, and the judicious use of gold lame on men and women alike.  The crunchy Colorado girl in me secretly envies the rainbow, which is the Florida aesthetic.  And Bea Arthur.  Because she is the QUEEN of sarcastic one-liners.

Anyway, Blanche, Dorothy, Rose…this set is for you.  I kind of went into a pink-induced fit when I saw these plates.  When they arrived at HQ I ran around to anyone who would entertain me and shout “Aren’t these plates FABULOUS?? Don’t you LOVE them?? DON’T YOU?? THEY’RE FABULOUS!!”

It’s all about the great aura of melamine that at once makes you feel like you’re in a school cafeteria and at a hip Martha-Stewart designed garden party all at the same time.

There’s something about this plaid that just makes me…well, Rose & Blanche would understand.  And the flamingos?  Come ON.  It’s just the best of Florida circa 1960, 1970, 1980 (skip the 90’s) and beyond.

You know, timeless.  Like the Golden Girls.
