Heirloom Ready
October 23rd, 2008My parents had three girls. The problem that seems to occur with having three of anything seems to be that there is a competition for everything – clothes, hair products, bathroom time, attention, etc. In fact, I believe there is only one area in which we all agree: heirlooms. They are the pieces of my mother’s that embody her and all the memories we have of our childhood:
a small pearl ring, a sapphire ring my father bought her in Puerto Rico, and silver-beaded bracelet that has been part of her everyday wardrobe for 20 years.
Now these aren’t the most expensive pieces of jewelry she has, but they are the ones that are so subtle and well crafted that she’s worn them for years. They were at our first communions, at our graduations, and at our weddings. There is a quality in craftsmanship and beauty in these cuffs by Marjorie Victor that immediately reminded me of those pieces belonging to my mother. They sit easily on any wrist giving the most delicate accent without being a clunky bother to your everyday activities.
Victor uses reclaimed silver and 18 karat gold, then hand forms and taps the cuffs into the gorgeous, eco-friendly Delights we are so pleased to feature!
More about Marjorie Victor:
Marjorie Victor embarked on her career as a jewelry designer at the age of seven, selling her handmade bracelets at her elementary school art fair. Through the years, her style has matured, but her love of creating and adorning others with her work still brings her the same joy it did in her childhood.
After graduating from Barnard College with a degree in art history and painting, Marjorie Victor continued to create jewelry for family and friends while freelancing in the design and fashion industries, most notably as assistant to industrial designer Eva Zeisel. When she decided to pursue jewelry design professionally, Marjorie moved to Philadelphia to learn the craft of metal-smithing working as a jeweler’s apprentice.
Her organic designs quickly caught the eyes of stylists and buyers alike and have since been featured in numerous specialty stores throughout the United States and Japan including Anthropologie, Henri Bendel, Fred Segal and Tomorrowland in Tokyo. Her work has also appeared on the pages of several publications including The Sundance Catalog, Elle Magazine, and Lucky Magazine.
Currently Marjorie Victor both designs and handcrafts her jewelry in her Brooklyn, NY studio. The kaleidoscope of fashion and art in the vibrant city she calls home provides endless inspiration for continuing design innovation.
