I saw these in Real Simple and wanted to buy them so now I will. They are too, too cute (and I love the cupcakes!)

aren’t these a bit heavy for cupcakes? Just my 2cents. I do really like their look but wanted to be sure they wouldn’t tip over. I know I can get a bit obsessive on these things but…

That’s a really great question. You’d think since they’re made from pewter they’d be heavy, but we baked up a batch of cupcakes for the shoot, and the little birdies nestle in the cupcakes perfectly. They’re actually quite light…delicately made, so they’re thin rather than heavy. You won’t be disappointed!

Our family’s birthday celebration tradition was presenting the birthday kid’s dinner on a red plate. It’s more festive than it sounds! The plate really packed a punch: high-gloss red with white script reading, “You are special today,” around the edge.
I suppose why this story came to mind relates to the fact that, to me, these pewter candle holders posess that same potential for inspiring nostalgic feelings when looking back. They’re the the sort of object whose appearance delights all in attendance - sure to be adored, shared and gifted to other members of a family.

I agree with Alyson. I think these could almost be a heirloom with our family. We’d bring them out for each kid’s birthday party.

I’m such a stickler for presentation when I cook and little, fun pieces like this make my day. Anything that will add a bit of whimsy and shine to the top of a my cake sounds great to me (and maybe cover up for any of its failings…haha)!

These are way too cute. I think they will make everyone forget that my cake was store bought from Trader’s Joe.

you buy your cakes at TJ’s? Me too. I’m crazy about that shop. When I found that my apartment was a block from Trader’s Joes I was so happy. anyway, these are super cute.

All this Trader Joe’s talk brings tears to my eyes…oh, why can’t my city get just one TJ? I’ll have to take solace in making my homemade cakes a little bit prettier with these holders.

Ah Trader Joes is my new obsession now that it has opened in New York. I thought it was everywhere? When I visit my folks in Phoenix I’ve seen it. I feel for you if you don’t have one. Cheap and good. Especially their vitamins.

Denver has many things, but a Trader Joe’s it does not…we’re left to dream of dry roasted almonds, truffles, and bizarre fruit flavored German beer at ridiculously good prices.

And remember the Framboise beer they had at Trader Joes? Yummy. (Kim and I have both recently moved back to Denver…the Merchandising HQ of Delight.com). And I miss the frozen spanikopita, their organic orange juice, and the aioli mustard. sniff sniff.

TJ’s!!! my favorite. I just had their lettuce cup mix, it wasn’t as good as my favorite chinese place but not bad. Anyway, I like these candle holders. very cute!
