Although I am admittedly more open to the idea of “outdoor décor” since the purchase of our first house, I still am hesitant to display seasonal items in our front yard unless I am convinced they are truly unique, tasteful for the neighborhood and of course aesthetically pleasing.

Having spent seven years in Los Angeles, our coming home to Colorado meant leaving behind the gorgeous weather and beautiful greenery of California.  Even though I grew up in Colorado, it took awhile to “embrace” the snow once again…to learn to deal with the cold and clouds (though not too many clouds here), to stock up on heavy coats and boots, and to learn to let go of green grass year round.

Somehow these snowy garden stakes seem to bring together the best of both worlds.  Designed in sunny California, these garden stakes to me embody the epitome of SoCal optimism.  I love the idea of snowflakes in a sunny garden.  I love the cheery disposition they have, and the happy acknowledgement that snow is – well – happy.

So, back here in snowy Colorado, these garden stakes will proudly sit in my front garden, long since dried and brown for the year.  Peeking out in happy shades of blue, my snowflakes will proclaim that I do in fact love the snow – just as I love palm trees.  They will be my garden while there is none, cheerfully protecting the succulents and lavender and tulips underneath their snowy bed.

And back in LA, or Florida or Mexico these snowflakes may remind someone else of the beloved home they left behind, and leave – happily – a reminder that is sometimes possible to have the best of both worlds.
