When I Was Your Age…
September 16th, 2007
Listen Sonny, when I was your age we had rocks to color with. You hear me? Rocks! If we wanted to draw a rainbow we’d have to crush berries on those rocks and PRETEND we could tell the difference between purple and blue.
We didn’t have all those fancy electronic toys you just throw around willy-nilly. No siree. The only way I got any of my toys to move was to tie it to the tail of our goat and watch it being dragged through the farm mud. MUD I tell ya! None of this pretty colored plus carpet you’re sitting on now.
If my mother caught me drawing on the wall the way you are with that insanely adorable tree and those cute little birdies, she’d take out the shoe-horn and beat me silly. And THEN I’d have to scrub down all the walls with scalding hot water. SCALDING I tell ya!
So I don’t want to hear it that you’re BORED, Sonny. Your mom just stuck this chalkboard stuff all over your room and gave you free range to draw away. Heck, I didn’t even have my own room when I was your age. Me and my brothers slept on bails of hay with the horses. HAY I tell ya! AND horses.
Now gimme that chalk, and go tell your mother I need another Manhattan.

My 3-year-old started scribbling on her bedroom walls which is something I wanted to stop immediately! I was so happy to find this chalkboard tree. She is happy to draw on her very own tree now and doesn’t even touch the rest of her walls. Thanks, Delight.com!
