Trees For The Future, Hanging Around Your Neck
November 8th, 2007
Is there a way to combine fashion with global responsibility? Nugaard Designs believes our generation has to take responsibility for the future of our planet. But they don’t see a reason to compromise beauty and fashion either! With that in mind, Nugaard Designs has joined forces with “Trees For The Future” to help keep green things growing on our planet.
Since 1989, “Trees For The Future” (www.Treesftf.org) has been supporting international argo-forestry and reforestation efforts in thousands of communities across the world.
Nugaard Designs is helping “Trees For The Future” by having a tree planted for every piece of jewelry sold from their FLORA collection (like this insanely beautiful gold leaf necklace), where pieces are makde with real leaves from Brazil dipped in silver and gold.
Nugaard feels this is the “coolest” way to help “cool down” our planet. So, when you buy one of these leaves, you will be planting that tree too!
The gold used in the leaves is mined in Brasil.
Brasil has amazing gold reserves located around the north and southeast of the country, and mining is a tradition of many generations. The country has very high standards for extracting natural resources to protect the environment, and the government has just recently created an agency dedicated especially to monitor gold mining activities.

WOW. This is gorgeous, but I think the chain might be a little too long for me. I saw the gift wrapping that goes with it, and I have to say you guys are awesome. Only women who understand other women can pick out beautiful gift wrapping like you guys do. I cannot say it enough, I love this freaking website!

this is a lovely necklace, but where does the gold come from? most gold mining techniques are incredibly destructive when it comes to the environment and i find it difficult to believe that this is truly an eco-friendly gift.

Its looks like a beautiful necklace, but i’m concerned about how fragile the necklace is I guess. I understand its dipped in gold, but gold is soft, and so is a dead leaf. Basically how does it stand up to being warped or even snapped apart?
