Remember when there were handymen? And, even, more amazingly, they were employed as building super’s.  Well, as we’ve all found out the hard way, those days are long gone.  If you want something fixed, and you don’t want to take out a second mortgage to fix it, you have to do it yourself.

Now I don’t mind doing things around the house –it gives one a tremendous amount of satisfaction to know it was your elbow grease that whipped the house into shape – but it’s hard, time consuming work.  I’ve found the only to manage it wisely is to be prepared.  Make sure you have the right tools and gadgets, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, make sure you know where they all are!  Don’t be running about the house looking for a Phillip’s head screwdriver only to have to run out to the garage for a wrench.
