Delight News :: Meet Sara, our Facebook Fan of the Week (and find out where she got a pair of kitten heel Manolos for $20!)
August 25th, 2008
“Hey there- I’m such a big fan of Delight, so I’m delighted to be selected as Facebook Fan of the Week! Yay!”
Delight.com: Tell us one thing even your best friends don’t know about you.
Sara: I’m hopelessly addicted to celebrity gossip websites like TMZ.com.
D: Favorite tips on saving time/money/energy?
S: This is kind of a shameless plug, but I swear by the meal planning tools on MealsMatter.org. I use the recipe database, menu planner, pantry guide and shopping list generator all the time. I found the site right after I got married six (gasp) years ago. I now work for the parent organization, Dairy Council of California. It’s great to represent and promote something that has made such an impact in my own life. Right now there’s a back-to-school feature with 10 tips for saving money on your food bill without sacrificing health. There are also some great "green" tips too!
D: What you bought on Delight and why?
S: What haven’t I bought!!
• LuxeLinks- because it is the coolest thing ever
• Envirosax- I live in California and we’re leading the trend in reusable shopping bags
• RuMe Minis- see above; a girl never can shop too much…..
• Nuts About You Key ring- cool idea, great present for my husband
• Elvis cutting board- my "California" mother-in-law loves Elvis AND cooking
• Sigg bottles- I have the bright yellow summer and white winter one’s, and my husband adores his black manly one. All purchased on delight!
• Delight Mystery Packages- Who can resist a Delightful mystery package? Not me!!!
D: Where do you take your friends from out of town to see something uniquely local?
S: I worked at Best Cellars, a wine store in New York City when I was in grad school. I fell in love with Bogle wines and now happen to live about 30 miles away from their tasting room/vineyard. Whenever any of my oenophile friends come to town, we go to Bogle. Another great "local" experience is a walk through Capitol Park (Sacramento is the Capitol of California) and lunch at Lucca’s where if you’re lucky, you might dine on the patio and spy the Governor at the back table.
D: What’s your go-to gift that’s never let you down?
S: I make my own pearl and beaded jewelry, so that’s always a good one for the ladies. Lately I have been buying the Envirosax bags for guys.
D: Next big project?
S: We bought our first house at the start of the summer so the projects seem endless. We’ll be doing lots of landscaping since all of the established trees and bushes turned out to be toxic to dogs. Yes, we learned that the hard way. Thor is feeling much better, though.
D: You’re setting your TiVo for..?
S: Well, we don’t have TiVo, but lately we’ve been watching the Olympics!
D: First URL in the morning?
S: Google! I have an iGoogle customized with a Dale Chihuly theme, RSS feeds for the top 12 California newspapers, local weather AND random Shakespearean insults. (Kelley’s note~ wow! I didn’t even know this existed!)
Sara is a proud member of the International Hash House Harriers, the drinking club with a running problem. She’s learning how to shoot skeet and has also worked on a hot air balloon ground crew. She’s an avid reader, and thrift store junkie. Her two best ever scores include a Juicy Couture cardigan for $0.99 at the and a pair of kitten-heel Manolo Blahniks for $20! We’re jealous and when we visit Sacramento we want a personal tour of their cool thrift shops!

Sara, You ROCK! I’m a shameless thrift store junkie too. I love to save money when I can so I can have money left over to splurge on things I absolutely love. Thanks for the Mealsmatter.com plug! I’ve been looking for a recipe website for ages, and I have now found the perfect one!

Nice bog you have here. I pretty much lurk the internet when I’m bored and read all I can about the organic lifestyle, but I really liked you view on things. I’ll bookmark the site and subscribe to the feed!
