Two Little Fishies Kissing In A Tree

May 4th, 2007

K-I-S-S-I-N-G… Remember the days of the BFF heart necklace when you took one side and your friend the other? Or, (more appropriately, to myself) the days of the friendship bracelet? Do you remember the hours spent braiding pieces of embroidery thread in progressively more absurd widths, as though you could express your loyalty in numbered trinkets up and down your arm. While I think junior high crafts should always be encouraged - if, for nothing else than the laughter it brings a decade later when found lurking at the bottom of the Class Case in the basement - one realizes the concept of showing friendship in the form of something you wear seems disingenuous in light of getting older. Friendship should be shown in rides home from the airport, listening to each other talk about breakups for the eighty thousandth time, or tolerating your best friend’s love of early 80’s soft R ‘n B. As adults, we learn how important our friendships are to us and we don’t need anything to show it. That said, sometimes it is a little fun to keep the best parts of our childhood in practice. Who’s to say the trinket of friendship can’t stay with us without having to wear 16 teal and magenta string bracelets? Our solution: a couple of Danielle Maveal’s Kissing Fish necklaces.

If we had an unlimited budget, we’d buy sets for some of our favorite gal pals whose relationships, whether in real life or animated, we think has attained BFF status:

· Cameron Diaz & Drew Barrymore

· Betty & Veronica

· Courtney Cox & Jennifer Aniston

· Laverne & Shirley

· Oprah Winfrey & Gayle King

The great etched design of two Koi fish is the perfect update on a fun and sweet practice of our youth…and we don’t think it would hurt to bring it back. The necklace is a pretty piece to add to any collection, which - like so much of Danielle’s work - is effortlessly wearable. We can’t stop getting older, but we can hold on to the things that made us happy oh so many years ago. So pucker up and wear your new necklace proud. MUWAH! The deets: - “Kissing Fish” necklace by Danielle Maveal - Artwork is etched onto a sterling silver oval, then oxidized and matte finished - Pendant size: 25mm x 18mm - Chain size: 16.5” sterling silver chain - This necklace makes a great Mother’s Day Gift or Birthday Present for a dear friend - Handmade in the USA - Gorgeous gift-wrapping available.

I used to be all about bird stuff but I’ve gone deep into fish-y things. This is just perfect. Strange but charming. Yay!
